How affiliate links work here

The plain-English version: some links on this site pay me a commission. Here's exactly which ones, how to spot them, and what that means for what I write.

The programs I take part in

  • Amazon Associates. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
  • eBay Partner Network, for links to eBay listings.
  • Other retailer programs (for example Newegg) on occasion — the same marking rules below apply.

Links to a manufacturer's own site are not paid links and are never marked as such. If a program is added or dropped, this page is updated first.

What a paid link looks like

You should never have to guess. Paid links are disclosed in four places, all generated automatically from the same data:

  • In the sentence:an affiliate link gets a dotted copper underline and a superscript dagger (†) — regular links have a solid underline and no dagger.
  • At the top of the post: any post containing a paid link opens with a one-line notice under the title, before the first link appears.
  • At the end of the post: a footnote block lists every daggered product on the page.
  • On gear cards: an AFFILIATE pill sits on every card whose buttons are paid links, and the buttons themselves say “See at Amazon †” — never “Buy now.”

The rule is simple: no dagger, no commission.

What it costs you

Nothing. You pay exactly the same price whether you use the link or search for the product yourself; the retailer pays the commission out of its share. If you'd rather not use them, that's completely fine — the model number is always in plain text.

Editorial independence

  • I buy the gear in my rack with my own money unless a post explicitly says otherwise.
  • Write-ups are finished before links are added. No recommendation exists because it pays better; plenty of linked products earn me nothing.
  • There are no sponsored rankings, no pay-for-placement, and no retailer sees a draft before you do.
  • When a product I recommended is discontinued, the card says so and points at the current pick — old advice doesn't get to keep earning quietly.

About Amazon product information

I don't display Amazon prices on this site. Product details, pricing, and availability change constantly and are accurate only on the retailer's own page at the moment you view it — always check there before buying. Product photos here are my own, taken on the bench, not Amazon catalog images.
